I'm aware of that. But the CP and SWP were each able to build broader coalitions around their basic demands respectively calling for negotations to end the war on the NLF's terms and demanding the immediate and unilateral withdrawal of US forces. While you can't impose a single set of demands on a united front, you can organize in common and try to build a consensus around those calculated to attract the largest numbers. I agreed with the sentiment expressed in the chant by the Maoist factions from the New Left that "Ho Ho Ho Chi Minh, NLF is gonna win" but sided with the SWP, CP, and most others that it was more likely to repel rather than attract the very large number of Americans who were otherwise opposed to the war. On a much smaller scale and for the same reason, I've opposed some of the sectarian slogans and chants in the pro-Palestinian protests against the Gaza genocide. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
