[Edited Message Follows] (Forgive another intervention from just across the border, but Canadian workers probably have a more immediate interest in the outcome and a closer relationship with the US working class than elsewhere in the developed capitalist world.)
1. I don’t believe it’s necessary to reinvent the wheel, and it's futile to suppose it can re-invented by individuals on marxmail who are now retired and largely divorced from the mass movement against Trump and the right. 2. Such a movement exists, in which the DSA and other left-wing groups play an important part. The urgent task is to bring as many of these disparate organizations together around a common set of demands and actions. Easier said than done, but the various Marxist tendencies were able to do so with some measure of success during the Vietnam War. It's virtually impossible to intervene effectively in these liberal and left reformist milieus without belonging to a group of Marxist activists with the resources to do so. Nor is it necessary to agree with everything the group stands for, only that it is understands the need for a united front from below which combines electoral and extra-electoral mass action. For example, I don’t agree with Tony that the Trump administration is Bonapartist or with Hari that it is fascist but that is incidental. What matters most to me is that, apart from their theoretical sophistication, they recognize the need to be associated with like-minded others of their respective tendencies in a disciplined Marxist/Leninist pre-party formation and each appears very capable of intervening in the broader movement in a comradely, non-dogmatic and practical way.
