FWIW I largely agree with this. To some extent David W, the current posturing of Western leaders is a reaction to the very likely ceding of Ukranian territory to the Russian state. The Western leaders are drawing a line in the sand "here and no further." To some extent I think you are denying a reality. Namely that there is an on-coming much larger war in the offing. How this will finally break out is speculative. But that is will seems very likely. The left is unprepared right now with a viable large scale alternative. Of course that alternative is only socialism in this day and age. The Linke...? Indeed, a question mark for some, but a pious hope I think. be well h
