Something for all the gurus to think about here. It's not strictly a
masq issue, probably related more to PPP, I think, but something you
may have encountered.
I was trying to download the new version of Pegasus mail yesterday.
>From Netscape, every attempt got about 16K into the download, then
hung. I tried all 4 mirrors, with hangs at not quite the same point.
Same results later from WS-ftp, to the University of Alabama site,
and from Microsoft ftp. So, I logged in to my Linux box, which was
doing the masq'ing for the Windows system, and same results, hanging
(hash turned on) at about the same place every time.
So, I think the internet is running flaky, because of all the
excitement in town. I log in to my ISP (running Linux, too) and ftp
the file just fine. Then, I see the same problem trying to download
it from the ISP! Could it be something in the content of the file,
some byte pattern that's doing things to PPP? The file was an msdos
.exe file, so I gzipped it at the ISP, and it downloaded just fine.
A curiosity and annoyance, to be sure. Anybody have any ideas?
