Hi Ken There is merit in advocating for a recording on/off control aka a pause button.
UCT is working to have an Adobe Air desktop app that indicates that a recording is being done or not in that venue. Ideally a separate led light would be the indicator. Imitating the studio type "On Air" signs. These ideas still won't stop the lecturer who ignores what they are saying and still discusses private info, but it helps to partially address this. Perhaps the perfect solutions are a policy change or increased monitoring coupled with editing the recording to remove those bits where privacy is a concern. These may not be practical in some institutions. I'd vote yes on a pause feature nonetheless.
