Stephen,
I'd love to get specifics from you about where you see this approach ("of
designing a set of services, and then giving each service some UI
space")--other than the Episodes tab, of course.
We (those concerned with the user experience) have tried to make sure that
the underlying architecture isn't forced on users; of course, development
practices/pressures mean that we've not always been successful, or it's taken a
while to correct such issues. We definitely didn't design the UI initially to
be a direct view onto the available services, though incremental development
may have lead to what you're seeing. Your "fresher" perspective may allow
members of the team to see more clearly what we no longer see because we're so
embedded in the project.

Past user testing
<http://opencast.jira.com/wiki/display/MH/User+Testing+-+Admin+App>, while
generally positive (users complete tasks, don't have a huge problem navigating
the interface) has definitely highlighted a number of issues, some of which
have been fixed, others which remain open issues in jira. Your perspective (if
you provide specifics) may help to identify new issues or prioritize existing
open issues. Additionally, let us know if you'd be willing to help with future
user testing (which has largely fallen by the wayside due to a lack of
resources...and even when we've done it in the past has been limited to users
in the few institutions that were willing to help.)

thanks,
Judy
