Sneak Preview of "My Love Affair with the Brain"
*MY LOVE AFFAIR WITH THE BRAIN: THE LIFE AND SCIENCE OF DR. MARIAN DIAMOND.*
*February 27, 2015 at 1:00pm, at BAMPFA.*

Please come to this free special sneak preview screening and program in
celebration of Dr. Diamond and her pioneering contributions to modern
neuroscience.

Presented by BAMPFA, the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute, Lawrence Hall
of Science, Department of Psychology, Division of Biological Sciences,
Integrative Biology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Center for Research and
Education on Aging, Cal Alum and Luna Productions.

My Love Affair with the Brain is a soon-to-be-on PBS documentary about the
brain, the passion of scientific discovery, the creation of modern
neuroscience, Albert Einstein, women in science, and love - all via the
life and research of beloved professor and YouTube celebrity, Dr. Marian
Diamond.

Marian Diamond's research demonstrated the impact of enrichment - a
powerful new understanding of the brain that has literally changed the
world, from how we think about ourselves to how we raise our children. Dr.
Diamond demonstrated anatomically, for the first time, what we now call
plasticity and in so doing, shattered the old paradigm of understanding the
brain as static and unchangeable.
Directed and Produced by Catherine Ryan and Gary Weimberg of Luna
Productions.

Join us for a special pre-release screening at the new BAMPFA!
Seating is limited. Please arrive early to guarantee seating.

MD-SEE- MD Summer Experience at Emory

*Emory University's Office of Summer Programs is pleased to announce
MD-SEE, the MD Summer Experience at Emory, for summer 2016. *

Much more than a shadowing program, MD-SEE offers genuine clinical
experience, classroom guidance on presentations, and a vigorous look at
current issues and practices in medicine. This course will cover variable
topics of special interest in the field of Clinical Neurology.
Undergraduates will have an opportunity to correlate experience with actual
patients with the science behind the diagnosis. During their time in the
clinics, students will act as a "patient assistant," helping patients who
may have partial paralysis or loss of sensation. They will learn the basics
of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and will
record patients' history and neurological findings while observing
real-life patient examinations. Each student will be assigned a Clinical
Neurology faculty mentor who will help develop the writing and poster
projects. Publication of student work will be encouraged, co-authored by
the faculty mentor.

We will be begin accepting applications on *December 9, 2016.*
The preferred application deadline is *March 1, 2016.*

SRF Summer Scholars Program

*The SRF Summer Scholars Program* offers undergraduate students the
opportunity to conduct biomedical research to combat diseases of aging,
such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Under the guidance of a
scientific mentor, each Summer Scholar is responsible for his or her own
research project in such exciting areas as genetic engineering and stem
cell research. The Summer Scholars Program emphasizes development of both
laboratory and communication skills to develop well-rounded scientists who
can work equally well with other scientists or the general public. Students
participating in the program will hone their writing skills via periodic
reports, which are designed to emulate text scientists commonly must
produce. Additionally, a poster presentation at a SRF-sponsored conference
at the end of the summer will provide students with an opportunity to put
all of their newly developed communication skills into practice when they
present their results to scientists from other research institutions.

Paid positions are available at such world-renowned research institutions
as:

   - Buck Institute for Research on Aging
   - Harvard School of Medicine
   - Sanford-Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute
   - Scripps Research Institute
   - SRF Research Center
   - Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine

UCSF Masters of Science in Biomedical Imaging

*The UCSF Department of Radiology* would like to announce that we are
accepting Fall 2016 applications for our Masters of Science in Biomedical
Imaging (MSBI) program.

The MSBI program is aimed at students who wish to master biomedical imaging
and research methods to enhance their research designs and broaden their
investigative projects. The program can be completed in one year of
full-time study or in two years on a part-time schedule.

Course work includes instruction in core theory, drawn from imaging
physics, engineering and mathematics and linked to physiology and disease
processes, providing a foundation in interdisciplinary scholarship. In
addition to introducing the fundamentals underlying image formation,
hands-on laboratory courses with experiments relevant for characterizing
pathologies, monitoring response to therapy and assessing the underlying
mechanisms and etiologies, will be offered. Electives allow students to
customize the program to their interests, including the option to perform
independent research studies.

Deadline: *February 29, 2016*
