AFAIK, Sony introduced the R and the E in the name when they started
making 'R'ecorders and 'P?'layers.... (The E for player beats me, but
it probably comes from a japanese word!)
Example: MZ-R55 => A portable recorder
MZ-E55 => Equivalent player...
