You sir are a smart man. It appears that was it. Thank you for your time.

Subject: RE: [MDT-OSD] ZTIOSRole fails to install .Net 3.5 - path not found

My guess is that you are having problems related to MAX_PATH; copying files and
folders that are more than 255 characters in length cause that type of failure,
and your path starts off pretty long:

\\myserver.mydomain.com\build$\Operating<file:///\\myserver.mydomain.com\build$\Operating>
 Systems\Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 with KB2919355\sources\sxs

When you add in the very long component folders under SXS, you could easily
exceed that limit. Try using a shorter OS folder name.

Also note that this type of issue can also manifest itself when importing the
OS image in the first place, causing the SXS folder to be incomplete. See
http://www.deploymentresearch.com/Research/tabid/62/EntryId/75/Windows-8-Deployment-The-specified-path-file-name-or-both-are-too-long.aspx
for that. You may or may not have run into that if you are using a local path
(e.g. C:\Deploy) that is shorter than the UNC path.

Thanks,
-Michael

BDD.LOG attached, but there doesn’t appear to be much detail surrounding the
error.

Can you provide the full BDD.LOG? The “path not found” message by itself isn’t
particularly useful without some context showing where it occurred.

Thanks,
-Michael

I just ran a process monitor capture and I can see it definitely finds the
source files. Not sure why the “path not found” error.

I mounted the ISO via the new Windows 8 “Mount” option. Then “Import Operating
System” -->”Full Set of Source Files”--><path to mounted iso>

It appears I’m not the only one experiencing this issue. I’ve seen a few
“hacks” to work around the problem:

How did you import the full source files into your deployment share ?

Sent from my phone, please excuse any typo's as a result.

Trying to use “Install Roles and Features” stop to install .Net 3.5 on Windows

but as Michael mentions in this post it shouldn’t be necessary for Litetouch:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/mniehaus/archive/2012/09/27/mdt-2012-update-1-roles-and-features-improvements.aspx

I’m using full source files, but it still seems to fail with this error:

ZTI ERROR - Unhandled error returned by ZTIOSRole: Path not found (76)

I even tried setting the WindowsSource variable, but that didn’t seem to help.
What am I missing here?
