Hi,
When I started here, we were using the old workstation. I switched
everyone to the new workstation with icons. I left both workstations on
there for a while so that people could adapt. I trained every new hire in
the new workstation and I wrote a document about the new workstation. Also,
to encourage people to use it, I let them change their colors. Some have
green, mauve, purple-I prefer slate myself. The reason I did this is because
meditech is writing all their new apps in the new workstation, which kind of
forces the users to go with 4x and I am not sure, but can EDM have numeric
menus? I did not think so and they may write more apps that way.

When we implemented the status board, we switched the nurses to NUI. I
didn't set up the desktop menus because it would be too much to learn the
status board, NUI, the process flowsheet and icon menus all at once. Many of
the nurses were excited about being able to use the mouse in training but
were quickly frustrated with the fact that they couldn't click on the
numeric menus and had to switch back and forth from using the mouse to
keyboarding. This problem is fixed in 5.5, so I now have no desire to switch
to desktop. We've had Meditech for over 20 years here, so the majority of my
staff are very good at keyboarding. I see no reason to force the mouse upon
them if they can do it faster the old fashioned way.

I disagree, we use Meditech workstation 4 exclusively and NUI style
menus for most users

Don't go changing the menus to desk top! If you keep the menus the
same, users will only have the color difference to contend with. If you
have attributes or NPR reports that print to screen you may need to
adjust them to work with NUI because the row/column stuff is different.
