How long do you intend to keep the engine?
Heres a formula I'd use for a good 1600 engine.
For long term reliability, 5500 max with the "odd" quick take offs @ 6500
for less than 5-7 secs. The SU's probably wont let it get past 7000 under
load.
That said, I've navigated in 1600 rally cars that have been constantly
revved to 7500 in each gear, for days on end. I have also navigated in a
FORD that blew up at 7400 in the middle of knowhere. (Very long, very dark
walk out).
