George,
Do you use an electronic ignition with the wolf? I'm using a 2D and haven't
been able to get it to work with a series 2 dizzy?
Any ideas?
Cheers
Phil

Hi Paddy,
I read your Email the other day and had a good think about what
advice to give you. Firstly, if you are using the original 40mm throttle
body, there is a very good chance of constriction higher up in the rev
range. I got my hands on a 55mm Hitachi throttle body allowing plenty of air
flow up high, however the idle wasn't the best. (Harder to tune down low) I
tried a 50mm unit which proved to be far more tunable down low however the
car needs to be re-tuned for mid-range and high end performance.
If you are using the original ECU......then that is your main limitation. It
has been tuned for smoothness, ecconomy and emission control, not for high
performance applications. I removed all of the anti-pollution gear that was
attached to the manifold and have decided to only take care of positive
crank case ventilation. (hose on your rocker cover) I used a fully
programmable WOLF 3D fuel and ignition ECU and have found it to not only be
easy to install, my car has never run so well in the 7 years that I've had
it. If I'm not happy with the tuning, I use the hand controller or PC to
play around with it and try it out on the road. If you have any questions
about the WOLF 3D I can help you out there as well.
A couple of other things I should have mentioned (silly me) is that the
engine is running extractors and a stage 1 cam. (this plays a large role at
higher revs) With a larger throttle body and fully programmable ECU,
excellent low down and mid range torque are improved drastically with maybie
an extra 500 to 750 rpm of extra usable rev range.(ECU controlled ignition)
I hope this gives you a few more avenues to take in getting the most out of
your son's 1600. If you need any more info just let me know!
Good Luck!
