Hi Paddy,
Just letting you know that the illusive L Series EFI manifold for a
four cylinder does exist! Once upon a time (1980's) they were being brought
into the country on imported engines...but no ECU's, and back then
aftermarket ECU's were way too expensive and beyond most people. It took me
around 5-6 months of looking on and off for one that had escaped the
dumpster. I payed around $150 (private sale) for a complete unit which
included injectors, fuel rail, fuel pressure regulator, idle air bypass
valve and enough vacuum hose to stretch from here to where ever it came
from. The only mods required were to tap 2 new holes in the head.(One just
between the original two holes on both front and rear of the head) A high
pressure fuel system is required with surge tank and ECU to make the whole
thing come to life. (Of course there are lots of small mods, but you'll be
able to solve them as you go) I used a WOLF3D ECU, wired it up (first one
I've done) and it started first go! The standard map ran rich and one
injector was stuck closed but it still drove up and down the street. I fixed
the stuffed injector, tuned the car on the road and now my Stanza SSS with
original engine (280,000 kms) is capable of making power at 6750 with no
problem at all. Overall torque is improved and fuel efficiency is improved.
If you have any questions let me know...but the best way to find a manifold
is to keep asking around. (EKW in Melbourne has none..I went there and had a
look myself!)
Good luck,
George Zouglakis
