James,  
        I think I'm the only one is Aust. to have one of these.  Heres what I
know.  The are variable retard units ie don't just retard by 5 or 10 deg, 
they are completely seperate from the ECU,  the retardation takes place by
the module varying the voltage going to the module (2 wire) that voltage
determines by how much it retards,  it can retard upto about 15 deg, it
retards when the engine is cold and the engine is not pinging, when it
retards it takes too long to release retard, it is not very reliable
therefor I don't have mine connected.
