O well. You win some, u lose some. Anyone use the
"pipe thru the cat" system by knocking out the inside of the cat and
welding a pipe in. Very illegal and i think theres quite a large fine for
anyone caught with it.

I'm in the process of engineering my FJ, I've
rung around and spoken to several engineers who all stated to me that a cat
was required because the motor was originally fitted with one. When I
asked those same engineers about some cars I knew they had engineered in
previous years, and that they had passed them without cat converters fitted,
all stated to me that the EPA was clamping down on emissions and they could
no longer certify cars without the cat's fitted.

Subject: Cat Converters....
OK, i lost a bet today with my
boss. I am down a carton of VB. I seem to remember a while back on the
list that if you put a new engine in an old car, the cat converter is
not required by law. The car is a datsun 240z and the engine is a
Toyota Supra 2.5L twin turbo. So i rang up the RTA and they said
it does need a cat converter because the exhaust system has to be the
same as the engine originally had. So i was wondering if any of
you FJ or SR 1600 blokes have a cat or have spoken to an egineer about
it???
