Blow off valves release the pressure that gets built up when the throttle
body shuts. This prevents the turbo from slowing down and cuts down on turbo
lag...

An external wastegate is the same as an internal one but larger...
It's job is to control the boost and prevent overboosting...

Dave,
Theres tonnes of types of blow off valves, some more expensive than others,
normal price for a good quality one is around 3-400 dollars, but you can get

them for cheaper which is what I would do! I might be wrong in explaining
this ( I always feel like hundreds of people read what I say on here, and
I'm doing a test or sumthin) but basically the blow of valve acts as an
outlet for the excess air that your turbo doesnt suck into the engine, you
have all this compressed air coming in and as soon as u push that clutch in
the boost drops right off, and so the air needs somewhere to get out of the
system, which is where the blow off valve comes into play.
The sound it makes is just like compressed air releasing as you can imagine,

but some make different noises ( if you put a party blower on the end of it
like my mate). Another way of getting rid of excess air is an external waste

gate, they dump more air out the back of the turbo than a blow off valve
can, I think? Anyway hope this was of some help dude, later

Tim
