Peter,

Just as a matter of interest what sort of pre pump(s) are you running and
what rate of flow if you know. Are you sure it was your pre-pump not
supplying enough fuel to the surge tank or could it have been the hp pump
over heating. Do you have a pressure gauge? I saw a neat trick for
overcoming supply problems in a race car a long while back at Bathurst in
Jim Richard's Skyline, they were fitted with an auxiliary lp that was
triggered by a sensor on the surge tank, it was a device that looked a bit
like the low water sensor in a ford and it worked well. I think all or at
least some of the V8's use a similar device these days.

sorry about all the questions but I'm just curious

My two cents worth!
I have run the line back to the Surge tank, as I think it's best to keep the
Surge tank full at all times, an example of this is a recent meeting at
Winton
on a hot day. Coming into turn one and two, I started to get what seemed to
be
fuel surge, which was caused by the heat factor, if I didn't run the line
back
to the surge tank then I would of run out.
I would not rely on the primary pump even on the street, as you say he is
probably going to give it a caning.
