Dan,
I have done the foam thing on a 180B SS and it did exactly that after 2
years the sills were only a shell full of pin holes. I dented it with my
boot it was that thin. Water from condensation in a cold climate did the
trick. If you foam, then the dry nitrogen purge and seal the sills with hot
bitumen to totally exclude moisture.
The stiffening is good though the car definitely feels tauter and more
responsive. A mate foamed his sills and blew them open by not having enough
reliefs for expansion!

I wouldn't be too game to use that expanding foam in the sills. It could
quite possibly trap water in the sills which will eventually turn to bad
rust problems as we all no to well with our beloved 1600's.
