Thanks for the replies, guys. A wrecker showed me how to undo the bolts
with a centre punch. After not being able to find a match for my switch we
ended up just replacing the rear section (the barrel and key were fine).
After a bit of hunting through the yard, the rear section from a 1200
switch turns out to be almost identical. Problem solved for $20 and a bit
of time at the wreckers.
The 1200 - 1600 ignition switch swap some might useful info, but it won't
work the other way, as the 1200 switch has a "T" shaped slot, and the 1600
a straight slot.

p.s Pete, was that an S13 180SX ignition switch straight onto a std 510
steering column? Wow!
