Richard,

there is no reason why these wouldn't work.  There is a place in Melbourne that 
actually does this.  The biggest advantage being that you can get parts easier and 
cheaper than the Hitachi SU's.  (i just paid $70 for a pair of needles).  They will 
use a little more petrol but if properly tuned should not be too bad.  SU's are 
reportedly good for torque.  I have set of Hitachi SU's and they work well for the 
rally car.
