Daniel,
The CA has a T2 style flange so you will definately need a custom manifold
to use one of these. In my humble opinion, one of the best turbos to use on
a ~2L four would have to be the cheap and cheerful ex-CA18/SR20 T25 or T28,
they ought to be quite plentiful (I should think more so than RB turbos)
because of the number of S13 & S14 (& S15!?) owners chasing more power via
larger turbos. The ball bearing T28 (late S14) apparently flows enough for
approx 170kw-180kw at the wheels- is this enough for you? If not (!) then I
agree- go for the big gun RB25DET unit! Is this a ball bearing RB25 turbo?
Sounds like low end response might be a little weak with a normal turbo this
big on a 1.8L? Also, I thought the (R33) RB25 turbo was a T03?
I picked up a stock Z18ET manifold for $50, so I will be running a T3 sized
turbo on my Z20ET. One possibility is the T3 from a VG30ET, it should be
plenty big enough for a 2L! Easy to find and cheap too, hopefully. I doubt
the stock manifold will pose that much of a restriction, because with the
relatively high N/A compression ratio I will only be able to run around 6-7
psi of boost..... bring on the 29mm forgies :)
- Tom
PS Are you planning to keep the standard camshaft or use something like a
Fury copy? Any thoughts on the gains available from such a change Daniel (&
list)?
