I have a hose that goes from the rover cover to a hole in an oval metal
plate that the SU's are mounted on ... Why does it do this? or is it
just a fairly simple way of directing the vapours ?

I think it's an oil/air separator for crankcase vapours? I just dump
anything from my rocker cover out the bottom of the car thats a bit too
advanced for me :)
