Normally the spacer will pull off the crank.

As for the stripped thread, I would check carefully to see if the crank
thread is stripped.  As cranks are pretty tough, it may be the bolt thread
only if you are lucky. If its the crank my guess is you will need to retap a
larger thread dia in both sides for balance and use bigger bolts. You may
have to also redrill the flywheel to fit the O/S bolts. Bolts may be hard to
obtain with the right shanks.

I'd be interested to hear how others have repaired this problem.
