I here where you're coming from Terry, but wouldn't the core have to carry a
level of pressure....I'd expect that effectively just having a 1/2" line
running back to the sump with no resistance in it would have to severely
decrease O/P in the oil circuit.

I know when I had mine set up, I had an adapter / pickup that sat between
the block and the oil filter.  My understanding of this system was that the
oil (under pressure) was diverted via the adapter - through the O/C and back
down to the filter where it was filtered and returned into the main oil
circuit... all under pressure.
