Simon,
1600 wipers are rated at 32 wpm slow and 48 wpm fast, screen wet and engine
running.
A Jedico wiper motor (horizontal type) is the best one and will do this
easily, Lucas if they work at all are good speed, Hitachi (point down at 45
degrees) are very slow in comparison. You may be able to improve your wiper
performance by greasing all of the rods etc as resistance will hurt your
motor a lot.

I would like to increase the speed of my 1600's windscreen wipers.
The RTA NSW regs' state that "Two speed windscreen wipers with a fast speed
of at least 45 cycles per minute and a slow speed of at least 20 cycles per
minute" are required.
I haven't timed mine to see if they meet this spec' but they are pretty
dismal
compared to a late model car. No use having all this new found performance
if
you can't see where you're going.....
Any info on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
