regarding difference between de and det:
no turbo!!!
det has piston jets (for cooling), compression for de is 9.5, det 8.3, injector size, de runs off dizzy, det has direct ignition (coil packs), exhaust cam duration bigger, det has larger oil pump, and also a different front pulley.  Then there is things like plenum, exhaust manifold, ecu, intercooler, sump with oil supply lines to turbo, earlier turbos have water cooling to turbo, I don't think (and may be wrong) the newer ones run water cooling to the bearing, gear box for det I believe has larger input shaft and bigger bearings, and there are probably things I have forgotten.  Also, there is the s13 motor and the s14 motor, which have different port design, and the s14 has vct (both det and de) on the intake cam which give better bottom end response without suffering power loss up top.

To turbo the de is most certainly a option though.  In the last issue of zoom, there is a 1600 sports sedan, running a de with 14 psi boost, reliable putting out something like 300kw at the f/wheel (206kw at the wheels).  All he really did was intercooler, fit up 800cc injectors and custom fuel rail, motec prog management, and an engine oil cooler.  He has left compression at 9.5, and all internals standard!!   When you think about it, all the turbo bits and pieces are interchangeable with the no turbo motor anyway, so picking these up over the next year, and then fitting them up when you want to go turbo would not be too hard.  It's just that you would have to do things like your exhaust, and intake plumbing all over again.

Subject: SR20DE Vs SR20DET 4 next project - Help + Differences

List, was just wondering for my next project ( I pick it up next week ), would it be cheaper in the long run to just buy an SR20DET ($2400) - SSS Automotive, or i would settle for an SR20DE ($750) - SSS Automotive ---- + factor in the fact of insurance etc for an 18yr old. But also factor in that i would be looking to turbo in the next few years.

Also - what are the major differences between the DET and the DE apart from the blindingly obvious. Thanks.
