I've never had a problem with it, BUT it does heat the fuel up and so you would be right. But on the other side of that argument, doesn't heat rise? Hot fuel would go to the top of the surge tank, cold fuel to the bottom. My EFI pump sucks from the bottom and the top connection runs back to the main tank.. Anyway, I've never had a problem with it, my tank is 1.5lt, I've never had surge problems and never run it dry either.
