I think it is a good idea to brace and strengthen the rear shock towers to carry the increased load. On my car (project under de/con/struction) I'll be using Porsche 914 Bilstein Coilovers, which  probably won't have enough extended length for the std. mounting points+ use slightly lrger 3" springs (200#).   Some of the shocks from Carrera or Aldan would work well,are actually very good value  and 21/2 " springs are cheap and avail in any rate virtually. Higher end will have adjustable bumb/ rebound etc.. I would check out any company that deals with stock cars/ pro street etc.. and determine how much wheel travel, spring rate required etc..  Also look at  summitracing.com or stockcarproducts.com(excellent site) or hotrod.com.   Any of the preceeding comments shold not be taken seriously.
