You are right. It sounds like the advance curve of the Dizzy no longer matches what is best for your motor. Stiffer springs would mean the advance comes in over a longer rev range, and this in conjunction with lower static timing should give you a better advance.

Only high load at low RPM, more noticable when its hot.
I've retarded the timing and there's no sign of it. So It shouldn't be lean.
I always run PULP.
I doubt it pings at high rpm, because the car doesn't ping at speeds over
about 60kph, if I have had it ping for a second and I've held it at the
higher revs it stops, its quite audible, and my motors not that loud.
I just know that its the dizzy, as they have an aggresive advance curve
standard, and the motor is worked, so it makes sense.
