I thought all cars ping at high load and low revs ie when you are slugging along in
5th up a hill when you should be in third say.
Obviously your problem is worse than this though

It still just sounds a bit wierd.

Have you got the vacuum advance hooked deep into the inlet manifold instead of just at
the throttle plate?

Title: RE: blue bird dizzy, re-mapping

You are right.  It sounds like the advance curve of the Dizzy no longer matches what is best for your motor.  Stiffer springs would mean the advance comes in over a longer rev range, and this in conjunction with lower static timing should give you a better advance.

    Nick,
Only high load at low RPM, more noticable when its hot.
I've retarded the timing and there's no sign of it. So It shouldn't be lean.
    I always run PULP.
I doubt it pings at high rpm, because the car doesn't ping at speeds over
about 60kph, if I have had it ping for a second and I've held it at the
higher revs it stops, its quite audible, and my motors not that loud.
I just know that its the dizzy, as they have an aggresive advance curve
standard, and the motor is worked, so it makes sense.

    Regards
    Justin
