Daniel, Identify the wires at the alternator end and verify that you have the same colours that I posted. It is quite normal to have to cut the old plug for the external reg Hitachi and make some new connectors for the alternator. All of the wires at the alternator end have their own connections and no bridging is required, on the internal reg Hitachi I think the plug only had 2 wires for the field & neutral. If the colours are different to what I posted, then let me know what you have and what year 1600 you have.

I'm still confused with the 4 pin plug that was used to connect to the back of the old alternator. The new one only has a provision for a 2 pin plug. Do I just bridge the wires on this one as well in the same fashion as your original post? i.e. Connect the Field (White/black) to White/red (dash light) Connect the Neutral (Yellow) to Active (White) Thanks Daniel Kroehn ----- Original Message ----- From: "Terry Rudd" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, February 26, 2002 12:59 PM Subject: Re: Alternator wiring > > Daniel, > > The reg plug is an 8 or so pin connector at the external regulator that's > on the guard at the rear of the standard battery position. > > A Hitachi reg has a bunch of wires coming out of it and ~3" from it there's > a plug that's attached to the loom.
