I have just removed the RHR quarter from my 240Z and the fuel filler only
had 3 spotwelds. It was the same on two other rear quarters I've taken off.
The reason Z's rust in front of the rear wheel arch is that there is a
triple layer of metal - inner sill, outer sill and rear quarter all join
there. Z's also rust from the inside out - where you can't see there is no
paint. Other places to check are radiator support, chassis rail/skirt under
battery tray and windscreen pillar on door side. An American company called
British Victoria LTD can supply most rust repair sections - you can order a
free catalog at www.victoriabritish.com and it will have just about anything
you need - only problem is cost. There is also a guy on the NSW Central
Coast pressing 240Z floorpans and door skins. He is at most local swap
meets. You could also try AllZspares at Asquith (Sydney) and see what he can
do for you.
