You don't even have to pull the engine out to re-ring a L engine (Repco Hastings CM PN 2C6872 - need to check bore). An ACL VRS (DD61414/6MT) from Repco or Supercheap are $80 or so, always replace the valve guide seals on a L head (included in VRS), rings are a bit more exy ~$110 (trade price) last set I bought, you'll need a sump gasket, oil/filter/coolant etc - ~$250 should just about do it.
