Ross,        I would use at least 25mmsq cable. I don`t know what size gauge it is though. The bigger the better because you want to minimise the voltage drop between the alternator and the battery so it stays properly charged.                                     With regard to length, you could use a long piece of string or speaker cable and dummy run it where you want it to run. If using a battery switch allow for this also. Use grommets where necessary and keep away from sharp edges or you could end up with a fire if it shorts out.      Make sure the earth cable is the same size and connected to bare metal, run it to the body in the boot, then from the body to the engine, this will help minimise voltage drop as well as keeping your lights bright and stereo booming.   Kris.   ps.
