I don't know much about the 1600 conversion, but the major aspects of
doing the job on a Z include:

- boring out the bracket
- redrilling the bracket to new bolt pattern
- disassembly of the rear strut and some grinding of the area of the
strut lug around the bracket mount (original backing plate mount) for
clearance.

With R31 bracket bolted to the original backing plate position, the
offset is correct so that the R31 disc simply slips over the standard
Z studs and is 'sandwiched' between the axle face and the wheel hub -
nothing further required in that area.

If the R31 brake hoses are used, they screw straight up to the Z brake pipes.

Handbrake cable is a bit more problematic. Some people have used the
standard Z cable, but IMHO its a bit short and so requires
manufacture of some 'extended' links as well as putting through some
strange bends. I ended up using Subaru 4WD hand brake cables,
combined with a Peugot 504 h/brake balance bar. The Sub cables are
quite long, and there was also some minor machining required here and
there, but this setup works reasonably well.
