Neraj, Whether or not a wider than 6" rim will fit on a 1600 depends on a lot of things eg mainly how much it is lowered and as I've written earlier what hubs are being used. We are talking millimetres here and that is the difference between hitting guard lips or suspension parts. A 1.5" - 2.5" lowered 1600 with 6x14 +12mm offset (or 100mm backspace) rim on 240K hubs clears the front guards fairly easily with 195/60 tyres but in the back the same wheels just clear (you can just fit a little finger between new tyres and the lip of the guard. I had to roll mine slightly to stop them touching after I fitted R31 rear disks as the wheel face was moved outwards ~5mm so you can see that we really are talking small amounts here and every further modification that you make get exponentially difficult. You've usually got a limited number of options with this sort of stuff, like I could have gone looking for a wheel (same width) with a 30mm offset and all would be well again. That means a 6.5" rim with a 30mm offset should fit without too many dramas but you'd want to run a 205 tyre which makes things real tight again.... and then you have to run flares to go wider.
I'd suggest you do some measurements on the car in question and see what will/wont fit it - wheel salesmen aren't much use with these natters either. Some good results have been had by other ppl after big wheels by going to a wheel manufacturer - there used to be one in Queanbeyan that made a lot of the rally wheels we used to spec. These guys are experts, demand top $ for their skills but they are usually very good and can be worth the money. Most cap cities will have a similar business locally. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of neraj ramanathan Sent: Thursday, 13 June 2002 11:28 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: wheel question... This may be off track of what is being discussed, but ROH custom make a certain range of wheels. My bro is starting to consider wheels now for his 16. You choose the bolt pattern, offset, centre bore diameter and rim width. So, what offset and centre bore diameter should we specify when ordering. We would ideally like to get 16x7 front, and 16x8 rear? Is this possible? Also, does changing to 240K struts give a wider variety of wheel choice? My brother is using stockies i think?
