hi,  you MIGHT  be able to lift the chain up that much  MAYBE  if you lift
the sprocket up, and  at the same time get some one to turn the motor a
LITTLE  back an forth ( maybe 2 inches or so) that might  ease the tensioner
in abit.

  sounds fine  in theory.......................................

otherwise  take the front off.
if you have truoble getting  the timing cover  back on, either loosen all
the sump bolts, or  cut the gasket  off where the cover sits,  then use
silastic  to seal.  make sure its completely drie before starting.
