Daniel,
I am afraid it may be as you suggested and the gasket has the wrong water
bleeds. There are two types of gasket on for z18 and a second type for
later Z20's
When I used the Z20 Gasket I had to punch holes along the exhaust side to
allow coolant flow on the low pressure side of the block.

Cheers

Subject: Re: HELP! Cooling system problems

thanks bud, but I would rather take the head off than cut a hole in the
firewall just to replace a stupid plug. I've got a sneaking suspicion
that one of the water galleries may be covered between the head and
block by the head gasket. The other weird thing is that the thermostat
appears to be opening but the radiator (which has inlet and outlet on
the same side)gets really hot on the drivers side tank but not on the
passengers side. I pulled the hoses off and the baffling between the
inlet and outlet of the radiator is still in place and solid (I can
feel it with my finger). Oh yeah the radiator is clean its been tested
when I had a filler cap soldered onto it!

This one has got me stuffed!

Any suggestions?????
