Rick,

1) There are two distictly different definitions of rarity: there might very few surviving cars of a particular model - and either the general public doesn't care, or everybody wants one (you pick which the GTHO falls into and which the SSS falls into - hint: it's not the same one)

2) Skodas are also very rare cars in Australia as they were never sold here new. Do you really care?

3) You may be getting sick of hearing about GTHO's, but we are *all* getting sick of hearing you dribble on about your precious SSS with it's bargain STI seats (with the price highlighted in red incase we missed it) You want to talk about wasting Ozdat bandwidth!?

4) I emailed you off the list because you emailed me off list - so nobody could see you crawl after the insensitive and blatantly inflammatory comments in our last round (Remember the email when you asked about my health insurance and finances because you didnt believe that medical bills for my hand surgery could have cost me thousands? I QUITE RIGHTLY told you to mind your own damn business!)

5) I note with interest that you have never refuted my assertion that the wagon you sold me is a rusted out piece of shit.

Attempting to make me look bad by bagging me on the list just makes you look like more of a fool. You may as well stop testing the list's patience trying, but you seem to insist on regularly giving it another go. Hopefully this time you will get the message - but somehow, I doubt it.

Also my main point in the comment I made was.
None, so which car is rarer in Australia??
Name another country where the GTHO and the Charger has the following that
Datsun 1600's have.
None??
How many 510SSS's were available to be bought from the factory dealers in
Australia?
Hmm None, as far as I know.

My comment had nothing to do with different strokes for different folks, I
was staing a fact.
This is as far as I remember, a DATSUN list, and I was getting sick of
hearing about GTHO's and Chargers being refered to as the best and fastest,
in their class maybee, but not in the same class as a DATSUN 1600 or
1600SSS, these cars have 4 less cylinders than what these people have been
trying to rate them against.
How can you compare a muscle car to a Datsun 1600??
You can't so why are these people wasting DATSUN list time talking trash?

Once gain this will be my last comment direct to you, so as I have been
doing as you requested a couple of weeks ago so bluntly, off this list,
direct to me, so know one could see what a nob you really are, requesting
that I do not talk to you or about me, you should also do as you requested
me to do, please do not talk to me or about me again thanks.
Rick White.

This type of comment really gets on my nerves! Four cylinder and rotary
enthusiasts have to fight for respect in the modified/drag/show scene
because the V8 crowd are typically an ignorant bunch and generally don't
have any interest in learning about different things. I think that it's
really discouraging to hear a four cylinder enthusiast make equally
ignorant and inflamatory comments about V8's and muscle cars. Different
strokes for different folks Rick, not everyone loves 4's and despises
8's: get used to it.

Also, the GTHO's and Chargers etc may very well have the same base as
the family versions, but even your precious
SSS is essentially an identical car to a stock P510 shopping trolley
with some minor mechanical modifications. They aren't just fast and
rare cars, they also represent the essence of the Australian muscle car
era, which is where a lot of their appeal comes from.

Also,
One small point here.
How many GTHO's and Valiant Chargers were available to be bought from the

How many 510SSS's were available to be bought from the factory dealers in
Australia?

Hmm I think I would take 510SSS anyday, (because of their real rarity)

over

the normal everyday glamorised shopping vehicles some people have been
wasting list time talking about.

I thought it was the Charger? The thing about the Ford is that it won
Bathurst and the Charger could only get 3rd, so I guess thats where the

hype

came from that the GTHO was the quickest.

I agree Duncan, these things are only worth what an ENTHUSIAST will pay

for

them. To your average un-informed dude, these cars look like old 1970's
clunkers. It's the legend, the aura that surrounds them that cranks up

the

price and gets people paying many times more than the original purchase
cost. For example, the Ford GTHO "shaker" was the fastest four-door
production car in the world for 11 years. Whether that refers to top

speed

or acceleration, I don't know but personally I don't like them (too big

and

heavy = crappy handling). The 1600 SSS reputation was built on triumphs

in

racing and rallying against more expensive cars and often better funded
rival teams. This is why it is a recognised classic. Although the
wine-quaffing, Porsche-driving weekend racers may snub their noses at

it

when one is entered in a road rally against them, I think that even

they

acknowledge its racing heritage.
If I had $10 000 I'd spend it on something other than a 510 SSS. I'd

put

it

towards a 240Z or a late-model 180SX.

Cheers,
Rob P

Help me,

Don't get me wrong - I'd buy one if I found one for sale - but what

is

so

special about a P510SSS ? Let's face, they're NOT a Falcon GT (where

stock

original is worth more than modified and big name people invest mega

bucks

in them). All I see is a couple of small SU type carbys on an L16 with

a

bit

more compression and a great looking dash. Interior is nothing special,
wheels & brakes are the same, same floor shift 4 speed as the standard

510

etc..

I am aware of supply vs. demand, but even in today's special events

such

as Targa Tassie and Classic Adelaide, Datto people are calling their

cars

H510SSS with L18, even though they are P510s (originally fitted with

L16s).

I see some of these bullshit prices floating around for P510SSS

equipment

that's not that special and yes I'm confused.

Rick, are you missing the SSS rocker cover (with three full ribs)?

Maybe

I

didn't quite pick it up in the photos. Nice original find anyway.

Dunc.

the oil pressure sender in the wagon is a stock switch - suitable only
