Malcolm,

Nobody really cares about near-stock L series engines with twin SU's.. they are pretty boring.

New Old Stock is supposed to be for people who own the cars. Some unscrupulous people hoard these parts until such time that they're worth a lot and then sell them. This is called profiteering, and I happen to think that it is wrong. You are obviously a bit touchy about this subject, because I didn't even accuse you of being one - open your eyes before your mouth indeed.

I'm getting really sick of the people on this list who insist on getting personal....

I have put SSS engines into 510's and stock 610's and they are not the same
to drive as a stock SSS.
NOW WHAT IS PROFITEER?????

It took ME 70 hours to go thru every part number in the master parts list of
Nissan NZ.
Yes I got some new bits from it,but it cost more in time..(work it out on
your hourly rate)......
Now used parts do you think they just apaired in my shed NO i have to buy
and strip cars and dump them,,O shit I have shit loads of time and its worth
nothing.

I also own a shop and if I wasnt into profit I wouldnt have a shop

WARNING::::;DONT BUY ANYTHING EVERYONE IS MAKING A PROFIT..

If you want some parts ask,if you dont (Dont)easy as!!

Part numbers don't mean squat (unless you're a NOS profiteer...)

What matters is the performance. If you lose a race, you're going to
look like a big fool if you exclaim "Yea, well, my car is rarer and
more valuable on the US collectors market than yours!"

An L16 with a ported head, more compression, a slightly hotter cam and
pair of SU's doesn't really add up to a very exciting drive - a stock
L20b has more power and torque. The dash is quite nice though!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!READ THE PARTS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 510SSS looks the same but just about every part has a different part
number,I'm talking the WHOLE CAR not just dash and twin carbs...

GO TO YOUR LOCAL DEALER ASK TO HAVE A READ OF THE BIBLE AND CHECK IT OUT
YOURSELF...

you carnt understand a SSS till you drive/own one..

I would like to say that out of all the 1600's I have owned.
They all sounded really really tinny when closing of the bonnet, boot,

and

doors compared to my SSS.
Did the jappas use diffent quality steel when making them as compared to

the

Australian bult versions??

Maybee that is another reason why they are so sought after?

Also,
One small point here.
How many GTHO's and Valiant Chargers were available to be bought from

the

factory dealers brand new in Australia??

How many 510SSS's were available to be bought from the factory dealers

in

Australia?

Hmm I think I would take 510SSS anyday, (because of their real rarity)

over

the normal everyday glamorised shopping vehicles some people have been
wasting list time talking about.

I thought it was the Charger? The thing about the Ford is that it

won

Bathurst and the Charger could only get 3rd, so I guess thats

where

the

hype

came from that the GTHO was the quickest.

I agree Duncan, these things are only worth what an ENTHUSIAST

will

pay

for

them. To your average un-informed dude, these cars look like old

1970's

clunkers. It's the legend, the aura that surrounds them that

cranks

up

the

price and gets people paying many times more than the original

purchase

cost. For example, the Ford GTHO "shaker" was the fastest

four-door

production car in the world for 11 years. Whether that refers to

top

speed

or acceleration, I don't know but personally I don't like them

(too

big

and

heavy = crappy handling). The 1600 SSS reputation was built on

triumphs

in

racing and rallying against more expensive cars and often better

funded

rival teams. This is why it is a recognised classic. Although the
wine-quaffing, Porsche-driving weekend racers may snub their noses

at

it

when one is entered in a road rally against them, I think that

even

they

acknowledge its racing heritage.
If I had $10 000 I'd spend it on something other than a 510 SSS.

I'd

put

it

towards a 240Z or a late-model 180SX.

Cheers,
Rob P

Help me,

Don't get me wrong - I'd buy one if I found one for sale - but

what

is

so

special about a P510SSS ? Let's face, they're NOT a Falcon GT

(where

stock

original is worth more than modified and big name people invest

mega

bucks

in them). All I see is a couple of small SU type carbys on an L16

with

a

bit

more compression and a great looking dash. Interior is nothing

special,

wheels & brakes are the same, same floor shift 4 speed as the

standard

510

etc..

I am aware of supply vs. demand, but even in today's special

events

such

as Targa Tassie and Classic Adelaide, Datto people are calling

their

cars

H510SSS with L18, even though they are P510s (originally fitted

with

L16s).

I see some of these bullshit prices floating around for P510SSS

equipment

that's not that special and yes I'm confused.

Rick, are you missing the SSS rocker cover (with three full

ribs)?

Maybe

I

didn't quite pick it up in the photos. Nice original find anyway.

Dunc.
