Tom, I've never done a 240K but it can't be that tricky, may be it can be. Are you sure it's not charging and don't go by the dash amps gauge at this stage, turn the lights on and rev the engine to see if they increase their intensity with revs or check the voltage level with a multi-meter. As there isn't a charge light (also are you sure a 240K dash doesn't have a charge light, most factory dashes usually have one even with an ammeter or voltmeter) then you probably have only connected the Batt wire and an earth at the alternator end.
>From the diagram look at the external regulator wiring - Can you tell me how many wires are in the plug. There should be 4 or 6, the later I know about but if it's only 4 wires can you tell me what the all do eg field, ign, ground etc Likewise at the alternator end, it's a Hitachi? Any signs of it being modified in a previous life? What colour are wires that were originally connected to the old alternator and to what plug eg thick white to Batt, White/blue to S(ense), Yellow to L(ight) or F(ield) etc. S & L/F are usually on a "T" plug, the horizontal is S(ense) and the vertical is L(ight) or F(ield). Thirdly, do the wires from the alternator change colours at the external regulator plug where it joins the main loom like a 1600? -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Tom Richardson Sent: Monday, 30 December 2002 11:30 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Alternator regulators After examining the 240K wiring diagram, I have the regulator plug as per 510 but without a charge light (the car has an ammeter instead) Do I need to hook one up to make it charge or something?
