Alan,

You can rebuild stock struts, and I recommend that you use motor cycle fork oil (stock is 5w, 10w is firm, 15-20w is racing). The "O" ring in them isn't anything special and you might be lucky and still be able to get original ones from Nissan, but you only need to replace it if there is obvious signs that it's leaking.

regards
Terry

Alan
I think you would be better advised to put inserts into your struts?
I'm not sure at all that the originals can be rebuilt.
Inserts are so easy.
Just as an aside have u considered the cost of upgrading your struts to something that can take decent brakes before you spend money on standard stuff? Its very easy to do and I reckon the cost would be minimal.
Cheers
Mick

List,
I have the original struts in my 1600 and am going to have a go at rebuilding them today.  They've got about as much friction as a spoon in a bowl of custard, so they need it badly. For this reason I'm pretty sure the O ring will need replacing.  I've never had a set appart before, so I was wondering if this O ring is just the regular type you'd find in a tap fitting or whatever, or if they need to be ordered at an automotive shop.

Thanks.
