Throw in a new thermostat to be sure but the problem is more than likely
the carbs as you originally thought.  As Errol said be careful as if the
extractors are red the rings are dead.

no i bought it for the L16 and used it for about 2,000 miles, then
swapped 
the motors, i just pressumed that the thermostat would be fine
