Hi ya Andrew
Yeah I been a bit quiet on the list of late. I am building a house and
running a new small business as well as my old job coaching....
No chance of doing anything serious with the Datto this year but with the
roads I got at my front door now at least I can go for a blast every now and
then.
Actually the road into Nerang from here is about 30kms of the best road in
the Gold Coast hinterland so its just made for the Datto. Unfortunately I
had to lower my colours to a skyline the other day cos I topped out on one
of the straight sections (theres only 2!!). I was hammering him all the way
until he just zoomed past me. The 5.1 is a great diff for the track
especially with the closer ratios in the gearbox but it cuts down the top
speeds considerably.
The diffs were very difficult to get from OS. Rizal really played hard to
get over them. It just got too hard.
An LSD is about all I need to finish my project I reckon, but I know realise
why so many people sell or just stop their projects when they start building
a house!!!
I keep reading the list tho and its still a source of great interest and
amusement.
You sound like you are getting stuck into it too. How is your beast?
Sorting out the front end to get them to steer and turn in is about the best
thing you can do to a Datto I reckon. I've yet to see it done properly
without lengthening the control arms, pulling them right forward with
adjustable caster bars and getting the right spring/ride height. I'm not
sure of the actual numbers (SOB who forgot to write them down) but basically
the front wheels should look like they are leaning in at the top, the inside
flange on the lower control arms should be filed/side-grounded? to allow
them to come further forward where they would normally hit the front cross
member and the ride height should be not so low as to produce bump steer.
The best set ups I have used have come from the info from this list
Well I got to go do another diff now . First time I have blown a diff
without doing wheeelies GRRRRR. The poor old Rodeo finally quit from the
weight hahaha.
Have a SAFE and Happy Easter Andrew and all my mates on OZDAT
Cheers
Mick
