I have been reading up on nissan engines lately
and it seems that the fairlady (2000 sports) had 150hp 2.0 ltr 4 cylinder in
the late 60'.
interesting that the L20B has less than 100hp.
i wonder what was so special about those engines.

The polar moment of inertia is the main problem, also to a lesser extent is the change in weight distribution. Single cam VG30's are definitely a better proposition although expensive to set up. Cheers Feral Errol www.datrats.com.au

The concern i guess is the amount of engine in front of the struts affecting cornering. i put this to the ozdat forum & the concensus was that i was mad for suggesting it :) i reckon in the end the best 6 cylinder would be the vg30. i think that it is legal in NA form, just within the weight ratio? has anyone had any experience with the vg30 swap ? from what i have seen it is probably just as expensive as a sr20 etc. i thought the L series 6 transplant might be quite cheap to do, but have no idea how bad the weight distribution would affect the corner ability of the vehicle. I found a guy (Eddie) who has seen that orange stanza, he reckons the radiator is under that aluminiun cover that you can see in the photo. I still like the idea of the L20 or L28 in the 1600 & i think it would be comparatively cheap to do, ie no special requirements for fuel injection etc etc, just stick triples on it. the handling has me concerned though, any ideas ?........anyway enough rambling for now.
cheers Jeff

An L28 would fit if you moved the radiator to the rear. But it would be pretty front heavy.
I know there is a 200B rally car in Vic with an L24 engine in it. Looks a pretty good fit.

Jeff, An S20 would be around $40,000. They come up on Yahoo japan occasionally for 3.5M Yen.

I suppose that the L20 or S20 6 cylinder engine from early skylines is
too long to fit in a 510 ? they would make some nice torque for hill climbs, even in NA form.

That would give 1,863cc with a 4mm stroke - not bad!

Denzil,
you can also use L18 crank, rods & pistons plus a .080 inch overbore
tomakeyour L16 into an L18

Denzil You can get an L18W block (japanese built) bored out to 89mm and get
Iclose to 2 litres without stroking.

Anyone here built an L18 stroked? Is it worth doing compared to an L20B?haveknow that it will be about 50lbs lighter based on engine weights thatbeen posted a while ago here. That alone interests me.
It looks like around 1940cc is possible with a +.060 overbore and 5mm
upstroke. Would a Japan L18 block take this OK? Would the crank be weldedmefor this and reground. What piston specs are required.
I'm not looking to save money going this way, BTW. The concept interestsas a replacement engine for an L16 for road use without going the L20B route, that's all.
Looking at some old posts I see Brad Hallett was doing one.
