Finally completed the transition of my
daughter-in-law's "Granny" 1600 auto into a "real" Datto yesterday.
Got the L18 installed with the bigger
breathing head, the five speed box, improved rubber. Luke (son)
and I drove soberly around the Macedon area tuning the
carbs, got them on song almost imediately - then spent an hour (and a tank of fuel) howling through the nearby
forest using 7 grand in every indirect gear.
Luke had to admit nothing built these days with
less than 3.5 litres goes like a good old school Datto - he's
impressed! (bigger brakes are a definite next
item)
