Heath
I LIVE on the Nerang Murwillumbah road at Natural Bridge. Its one of my most favourite roads and I get to drive it every day.
I also like going DOWN Henry Roberts Drive from Mt Tamborine. You definitely need big brakes for that one!  I have actually experienced a little fade down there. Might have been brain fade tho..Haha
Seriously though, I grew up in Melb and the Kew boulevard and the Black Spur rate right up there. My all time favourite tho is the Great Ocean Road in Vic. I don't know what its like now but 30+ years ago I used to go on the annual Melb Uni m/bike club "Great Ocean road race oops ride". The idea was to leave the Uni in a sedate sort of mode (as sedate as 100 lunatics on motorbikes can be) and ride to the other side of Geelong and assemble there for a smoke break and then its was full on, flat out, as fast as you can to Apollo Bay. It wasn't a 'race' but the winner could claim huge bragging status and get shouted lots of beers..There was never a lot of traffic and in all those years we never saw a cop. I should add that I also raced motorbikes for many years at places like Bathurst  hmmm Don't get me started on Bathurst....
Times change and so do speed limits and the revenue raisers and now its hard to find good roads that you can actually 'drive' on.
Where do you go Heath?
Where did you take the Datto Richard?
Cheers
Mick
PS Has anyone else on the list done any laps on the closed circuit at Bathurst?
PPS  Whatever happened to Andrew Dennis and his awesome coupe?

Big brakes might come standard but they're NOT 30+ years old and some of them aren't even Dattos - and what fun can it be to get the big brakes standard anyway??
Most of the guys on this list are into the challenge of making a perfect car even better!!  I don't know about you but I really enjoy the challenge, and the satisfaction of knowing I did it myself. Anyone can spend the dollars and buy the performance you speak of but very few can DIY.
Well done Richard (I never received your original post)!!!
For those who haven't experienced it - there is NOTHING quite like the sweet sound of a Weber powered L series on full noise!!
They're not exactly fuel misers though! HaHa
Cheers
Mick
PS  On 'my' favourite road I have never had anything (including "WRX, Silvia, EVO, GTiR") keep up with, or outbrake my Datto. I eagerly await challenges

Finally completed the transition of my daughter-in-law's "Granny" 1600 auto into a "real" Datto yesterday.

Got the L18 installed with the bigger breathing head, the five speed box, improved rubber.  Luke (son) and I drove soberly around the Macedon area tuning the carbs, got them on song almost imediately - then spent an hour (and a tank of fuel) howling through the nearby forest using 7 grand in every indirect gear.

Luke had to admit nothing built these days with less than 3.5 litres goes like a good old school Datto - he's impressed!  (bigger brakes are a definite next item)
