OK, B-58's: On simulated low level bomb runs, after "release," we'd call in
post-release info to the RADAR bomb scoring site. True air speed (TAS) of
our B'52 runs then was ~270 knots at 2 k feet. (Our airspeed was restricted
at low level for a while because of some possible wing cracks.) So typical
TAS part of the post-release info called to the scoring site went, "True
aispeed 270." 'Bout 15 minutes after we finished a run one day in 1967, we
heard another bomber crew give post release info to the site. His went
something like this, "True airspeed 1560." ('Don't remember exact number.)
It was a B-58 at high altitude.

Wilton
