Don't know how it might work for your MGB but I hear the hot swap for old 
Toyota 4X4's is now the inline aluminum 5
cylinder out of a Chevy Colorado or H3.
Light, not too big, good power and torque and reasonably cheap and available in 
the junk yards from wrecks.
