Not with AT&T; they killed off unlimited data plans on smartphones. You can get a 200mb cap for 15/mo or a 2gb cap for 25/mo. You cannot get the 30/mo unlimited iPhone data plan, and to be able to (pay extra to) get tethering, you must "upgrade" to a new plan...

Same problem here, there is a wide diversity of pricing. I pay
$35/month for some minutes and unlimited data, iPhone users pay $100+.
If I want to recreate my plan on a newer phone I'd be paying at least
$60/.

There are upstarts that advertise wildly in the $30 range, but once
you deal with roaming/data/text messaging and whatnot they seem to be
$60-$80 as well.

In fact, by the numbers it looks like we pay 20% more in the US than
CA, or at least did in 2008.

be closer to that $60 plan than he likes

I suppose so but we are spread out in a thin line along the USA border so
not much country to cover when it comes
down to it. Basically, it is profit driven and there is not enough
competition and the market will bear a higher
amount so they take it. Not too bad unless one wants modern technology like
an iphone then it becomes expensive.

I wonder about Scandinavia as well. I believe I recall seeing that most
folks in one of the Scandinavian countries
had dropped their land lines and were relying solely on cell phones.

Unfortunately, we pay through the nose

to you folks south of the border.

Well, there is a good reason for wireless to be more expensive in Canada
than
USA: More land, less customers.
I wouldn't be surprised to find that cell phones are one of the rare items
that
are cheaper in Europe than here.
